It may be as intuitive as you asking the question here on Quora.
Honestly, I would recommend googling it first. For example, if you were interested in “real estate keywords,” you should just search this permutation. I just did and a ton of folks have already done most of the work for you. You just need to audit it with the Keyword Planner (https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner), which is still your best tool to find out the total for each specific keyword.
If you have a less common industry to research, you will obviously have to do a bit of work. In order to generate some ideas, use some of the advice given already about using Google Trends or similar. One post offers many alternatives to the Google Keyword Planner here: 12 Free Keyword Tools To Replace Google’s Keyword Tool I noticed this one being interesting: your friendly keyword tool, but it feels like they are just taking the results from the Keyword Planner and presenting it into nicely organized blocks of data. I’ve also collected over the years the top keywords here, if it helps: 2014’s Top Google Searches: Most Searched Keywords on the Internet v4+
And just a small note, but many of the keywords will relate to the top websites for each industry. If you don’t know them, use Alexa.com, Similarweb.com – Digital World Market Intelligence Platform and Top Ranking International Websites from Quantcast.
Good luck!
