Arizona
Kirsten Voris, TCTSY-F, RYT-200
Tuscon, Arizona
Kirsten came to study TCTSY after discovering that it was possible to get her body to do yoga without feeling her body. And injured herself badly. Twice. Her movement practice on hold, she focused on meditation, then Yin Yoga. She began learning to work with her body as the object of meditation. Then, one day after months of trying, Kirsten flexed the top of her left thigh…and felt it flex. She hasn’t taught a vinyasa class since.
Kirsten completed her initial yoga certification in Ankara, Turkey, where her first clients were members of the international aid community. The experience of facilitating self-care for aid workers inspired Kirsten to bring TCTSY to a training on secondary and vicarious trauma for aid workers in Cusercoli, Italy. Kirsten continues to advocate for radical self-care with coworkers at a local tribal government where she is TCTSY facilitator for tribal youth in residential treatment and the kids at Head Start. Kirsten is active in her meditation community and offers TCTSY for groups and individuals in and around Tucson, AZ. She is available to facilitate in Turkish. Contact: kvoris@hotmail.com

Bonnie Currie, TCTSY-F
Jacksonville, Florida
Bonnie is practicing attorney and yoga/mindfulness teacher. She found yoga in the early 2000s. Even though she had for years been an avid runner and triathlete, the eating disorder she struggled with and its roots left her dis-embodied and worn out. Yoga helped her re-discover her body, learn again how to safely live in it, and heal the wounds that had led her to abuse it. In 2006, Bonnie received her 200-hour yoga teaching certification. Two years later, she and a partner opened Lotus Yoga, a community based yoga studio in Jacksonville, Florida. Since that time, Bonnie has had extensive training in ashtanga and vinyasa yoga, adaptive yoga, healthy back yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Her studio recently partnered with the Love Your Brain Foundation, a non-profit working to support survivors of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) through gentle yoga, meditation and community. Through this partnership, she and her studio will be offering adaptive yoga and meditation classes for TBI survivors, along with their family members and caregivers. Bonnie is a certified facilitator of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY-F) through the renowned Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her work (as well her own practice) – whether with individuals who have sustained physical and emotional traumas, those with eating disorders or physical limitations, or those simply seeking to cultivate insight and deepen their own practice, has taught her first-hand about the extraordinary healing potential that lives inside the practices of yoga and mindfulness. Margaret Berger, LCSW, RYT, TCTSY-F
Chicago, Illinois
I live in Chicago, Il and work as a psychotherapist in Park Ridge, Il for The Juniper Center a large group private practice. Training with the Trauma Center has been an invaluable experience that has exposed me to the very nuanced practice of TCTSY and it’s very profound healing effects for those who live with a history of complex trauma. Having taught the more conventional models of yoga over the last nine years I am grateful that I have learned a way to reach more people who may not be aware of how the movement of the body can positively effect the mind. The new frontier of movement centered psychotherapy in conjunction with traditional talk therapy is an exciting and expansive way to support people in their efforts to recover from deep psychic wounds. I look forward to staying aware of the evolving science in this new field. Contact:

For over 10 years she has been adapting yoga-based movement exercises to be accessible for patients in crisis stabilization. Upon discovering TCTSY, she found a framework in line with her years of clinical experience and also a great desire to help the yoga and mental health communities become more trauma-informed. Lisa Stachitus, RYT, TCTSY-F
Salt Lake City, Utah
I have always been fascinated with the inner workings of the brain and how our life experiences impact our development as children and into adulthood. After attending a workshop about Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and finding out there was a style of yoga that works hand in hand with understanding and healing the connections between the brain and the body, I immediately knew this was a way I could bring my passions together, and give back to my community (and humanity) by becoming a facilitator of TCTSY. Originally trained in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa style of yoga, RYT-200, I was struck by the differences between the traditional yoga I have experienced and the Trauma-Sensitive Yoga that I experienced with TCTSY. I love their focus on non-coercion, equal power dynamics and always using invitation to facilitate a yoga session. You get to choose when and how you move your body, and to practice getting in touch with your body. The feeling I had of being in control of my body and understanding that I am in charge is something that I wish to help others experience. I am excited for this opportunity to assist others in their healing process. If you have experienced trauma in your life and are curious to know if this style of yoga might benefit you or a group you are involved with, please contact me at lisa.stachitus@gmail.com.
