I am wearing specs for more than a decade now for correcting more degree of myopia. I heard about “School for Perfect Eyesight” located in Pondicherry. Getting appointment was an ordeal. After waiting for months, I got an appointment. I was excited to pack my bags and to go on a vacation for a week to Pondicherry. School taught few relaxation eye exercises which was easy as well as effective. After practicing series of exercises for a week, result was tremendous. When I reviewed my vision by the end of the treatment, I was happy that I chose to go down to Pondy. Wonder if it really works, trust me, it has worked for me. My power reduced and it was such an amazing feeling to see that my eyes have become better naturally.

The exercises taught here involve moistening, relaxation, acupressure and strengthening techniques. It requires precision not only in execution but also in the number of repetitions.

Once you visit the school, the first biggest revelation will be that most of us do not know how to use our eyes. We who sit in front of our computers simply do not blink our eyes and we stare at the monitor. We don’t realize how much we strain our eyes while watching a movie. Result — headaches, swollen eyes, red eyes, refractive errors and deterioration of vision.

Not many people know about the school as they do not advertise. People hear of it by word of mouth.

It is obvious that there couldn’t be any medicines to rectify shortsightedness; otherwise, the world would have been on it already. Now the question is whether there is any eye exercise or yoga that could potentially reverse the shortsightedness. The School gave me the answer for my pertinent question.

Persons of all ages have been benefited by this treatment of errors of refraction by relaxation; but children usually, though not invariably, respond much more quickly than adults.

Exercises to be followed:

1. Sun Treatment

2. Palming

3. Bar Swinging

4. Game of Ball (1. V -> Vertical, 2. Inverted “U” shape)

5. Fine Print Reading

6. Chart Reading

7. Vapor

8. Cold Pack

SUN TREATMENT:

This exercise is to stand facing the sun with eyes closed and swing the body gently from side to side like a pendulum for 1 minute. Morning and evening are the best time for sun treatment.

PALMING:

This is done by covering the closed eyes with the palms of the hands (the fingers being crossed upon the forehead) in such a way as to avoid pressure on the eyeballs. You should be able to see a perfect black and it can be seen only when the mind is at rest.

More info on how to do Palming can be found here -> http://bit.ly/1UuCUwr

BAR SWINGING:

This exercise is done by standing in front of the window with vertical iron bars. Stand with the feet apart and sway gently from side to side like a pendulum. In doing so one should see through and beyond the bars and blink and each end. It should be done for 40 counts. My left eye had more power than compared to right eye, so I repeated the same steps by covering my right eye with eye patch.

GAME OF BALL:

This exercise improves the accommodating ability of the eyes. It helps to form the blinking habit. It is done by throwing the ball from one hand to the other. One should follow the ball’s movements and blink after each catch. This should be done for ten minutes. Children like to play for a longer period and should be allowed to do so. After practicing for several days the vision improves, giving full relaxation. It is to be noted that all can practice this exercise.

1. Throw the ball onto the ground from one hand and catch with other hand. It should go in a path like ‘V’. Both hand should be at shoulder level.

2. Throw the ball from one hand to another hand on the air without hitting the ground. The maximum height the ball should reach is your forehead. This will form inverted `U` shape.

FINE PRINT READING:

Reading fine print or photographically reduced print is a very good exercise for myopia and causes no discomfort. The fine print booklet must be placed below the chin and should be read at the distance from which it is seen best. This distance will vary for every individual. Blink twice in each line and shift the head along the line. This is to be done for two to five minutes. It should be done in candlelight and then in good light. Reading should be done with both the eyes and closing one of the eyes.

CHART READING:

This is where memory helps the eyes. Two identical charts are used. One of them is hung on the wall and you hold the other.

Read the distant chart and blink after a letter. When you are unable to do so, look at the chart in your hand and then keeps your eyes closed for half a minute. Then with gentle blinking, look at the distant chart and try to make out the letter without straining or squinting. After some time, with the help of the memory, you will be able to visualize the letter and the distant objects, which you previously were unable to see.

VAPOUR:

A bowl of water is heated to form steam and a few drops of eucalyptus oil are dropped in. Lean over the bowl and blink in the rising vapour for a minute or two.

COLD PACK:

Take two clean handkerchiefs, dip them in ordinary water and place them over your closed eyes. Leave them like that for ten minutes.

There are 2 more exercises which they taught me. 1. Acupressure for eyes and 2. Eye movements.

It would be better to explain these exercises via video.

The School is doing such a novel service, especially for children who must bear the burden of glasses at a really young age. I strongly recommend you to get an appointment for your near and dear ones who have refractive errors. Kindly spread the word.
